The educational kitchen

The children learn to cook the Tanzanian way:
on wood, charcoal or kerosine.

They learn how to prepare vegetables, how to measure and weigh, how to start the fire and what dangers fire can bring. They are also taught how to serve the food and how to eat it. Finally they learn how to clean the kitchen and the surroundings and how to do the dishes. These cooking lessons not only build their independence but also stimulate their subtle movements, eye-hand-coordination and intellectual skills.

The cooking lessons are not only for children participating in the programme but also for young adults who come to the Centre on a daily basis for the special adapted work programme.
